Hot Chocolate is one of my all time favorite fall and winter drinks. I used hot chocolate pouches with water for the majority of my life. Only learning to make homemade when I had to make the alternative with coconut milk due to stomach sensitivities. While coconut milk is a great alternative and still a delicious option, nothing beating the creaminess of real milk in hot chocolate.
Now that I have sheep milk hot chocolate, I will never go back!
Sheep's Milk Hot Chocolate
What you'll need:
Sheep's Milk (Raw or Pasteurized)
Pot or Double Boiler
Heat/Stovetop
Whisk
Masons Jar for Storage or Cups if consuming immediately
Ingredients
4 cups of sheep's milk
1/2 cup of cocoa powder
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1/3 cup of hot water
1/8 tsp of salt
1 tsp of vanilla extract
Instructions:
-Turn stove to medium heat.
-Combine cocoa powder, sugar, hot water, salt in the pot. Whisk ingredients together until chocolate is smooth and have no lumps. Make sure you don't overheat and burn the chocolate.
-Slowly pour in the milk when the chocolate is luke warm. If you pour too quickly, the chocolate might cook and get lumpy.
-Once milk and chocolate mixture is combined, heat the mixer to desired temperature.
-Remove pot from the heat. Mix in the vanilla.
-Serve right away or place in mason jars or storage container and place in the fridge.
Can reheated in the microwave or on stove top.
Pro Tip: because this is fresh hot chocolate, when refrigerated, the chocolate will sink to the bottom. Before reheating, if placed in a safe container with a screw on lid, just shake the mixture up. It'll all mix back in.
